Back in August, I posted Top 5 Free Nashville Fun (with a baby). Feel free to check out that post. I wanted to follow up with a Top 5 Free Nashville Fun WINTER EDITION! I noticed when I wrote that post that it primarily catered to warmer months, so I thought it would be neat to include some of our favorite things to do when it’s cold and the outdoors are just not an option. Nashville has a lot to do. A lot of activities just aren’t free. My goal for this post is to provide ideas for families to do without having to pay an admission.

The first one is a carry-over from my original post. This one can be year-round and I love that!

1. The Nashville Public Library

The library has so many great things to offer! They have so many cute shows. Last week we went to the puppet show they had and it was so adorable. They were life size puppets. We always read while we are there and they have areas for kids to play. It is such a great and free resource to utilize with kids.

This was taken in their little courtyard outside of the kid section at the Library

2. Cornerstone Church Indoor Playground

When I worked at DCS I heard of the Cornerstone Indoor Playground and would use this area for family visitations. I didn’t have Laila at the time, but I knew that I would love to go there when she arrived! Now that she is fully mobile and everywhere, she LOVES going to play here. There are actually two different sections to play, a very large section for older children, and a soft play area.

3. Opryland Hotel

I feel like if you live in Nashville everyone knows to visit the Opryland Hotel during the holidays. Since I love the holidays, this is one of my favorite things to do! There are so many lights and so many things to see. There is an outdoor section to see also, but the majority is inside! This was us at the Hotel last year. We will be going again hopefully this weekend 🙂

4. Neighborhood Lights

Before completely skipping over this and moving onto number 5, here me out 🙂 Last year, we had a teeny tiny newborn baby so we did not want to go to many public places before she had her shots. We found an article that listed places with the dancing lights (synced to music) and drove to the ones on the list and watched those. It really was incredible to see how some people decorate their homes for the holidays and are able to sync it to music…I’m talking every day people who do this, not a business. This is last years list so I’m not 100% sure every one of these will be available again.

5. Music City Winterfest

Something that we do every weekend is check Nashville Guru’s events page. I recommend anyone looking for something fun to do in Nashville to check here first! There is a calendar posted and it lists all sorts of events in the Nashville area year round. This lists free and not-free events. This is where we always find our festivals to go to. The Music City Winterfest is happening Decemeber 9th, so if you are reading this and in the Nashville area, make sure to check this out. I LOVE checking out local artisans and trying out local food trucks. This will all be at this festival. It might be a little chilly, but definitely worth it.

Lastly, I would like to add that we LOVE staying home and doing things at home as well. I did not want to make this a direct number on this list because it wasn’t Nashville specific but during the cold months (especially Holiday season), we will make a pot of coffee, turn on Netflix, do a Holiday craft. We love checking out local coffee shops and trying all of those out. We have bond fires. Honestly, tons of money doesn’t have to be spent to have fun!

Thanks for reading! I would love to hear of other fun activities you all enjoy!

  1. I think you are genius to list the things to do in winter now, because like you said, we usually don’t do the same things when it’s hot outside. I’ve never visited Nashville yet but now want to! Thanks for sharing those great activities with a young kid! 🙂
